     The 16th annual Sugar Bars Legacy Horse Sale was held on Sunday, September 16th at the rock pavilion on the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, in beautiful & historic Sheridan, Wyoming.  Consignors from South Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Saskatchewan Canada offered an exceptional lineup of horses of all ages.  With the seats full, this year's sale saw prices remaining steady compared to previous sales for the weanlings; lower for the yearlings and slightly higher for the saddle horses.  The average on the top five weanlings was $2,400, average for the top 5 yearlings was $2,520 and the average on the top five saddle horses was $11,150.

     The sale started off with the Sugar Bars Legacy Sale “WildCard”.  With no colt in the ring, the auctioneer asked for bids on the “WildCard”.  The winning bidder chose Lot 17- TDM Four Star Lowry for their choice of the weanlings.  This beautiful palomino stallion was consigned by AQHA Ranching Heritage breeder- Swensen-Martin Horse & Cattle Co- Trent & Dawn Martin of Beulah, ND.  He was sired by Vascos Lowry Star- a Lowry Star, Colonel Freckles (Sugar Bars) bred stallion and his dam was Four Twenty One, a Colonel Freckles (Sugar Bars), Eddie 40 (Eddie, Happy Hancock) bred mare.  He was purchased by Aspen Larmer of Mot, MT for $3,300.

     Haight Ranch-Dale & Carol Haight of Hanley, Saskatchewan, Canada was the consignor for the high selling Saddle Horse.  The saddle horses proved to be an incredible group of horses; ranging from finished rope horses, all around ranch horses and just started young horses needing a job. Sugar Bars bred Lot # 61, Profits Paisley, was the high selling saddle horse; a solid four-year-old buckskin mare; with eye appeal, color and good bone & feet- with a lot of heart.  Her paternal grandsire, Cook N Oak was a multiple working cow & reining Champion. Her sire, Profit Power offspring are tremendous rope, ranch and barrel horses.  She was started the right way and has 7 months training - nicely started out of the box and is barrel patterned.  She was purchased by Jon Robinett of Dubois, WY for $14,500.  Lazy H Y Corral of Carr, CO donated a custom saddle blanket to the consignor of the high selling saddle horse.

     The high selling Sugar Bars saddle horse gelding was Peppered Pistol, lot 64 and was consigned by Swensen-Martin Horse & Cattle Co.- Trent & Dawn Martin of Beulah. ND.  This six-year old gelding was used on the ranch the last two years:  solid in the branding pen and great to rope and doctor in the pasture.  A good traveling gelding that has been used for everything from calving to elk hunting.  He is a Wilywood, Sonny Sugar (Sugar Bars) bred gelding that was purchased by Steve Stoddard of Broadus, MT for $12,000. 

     The high selling yearling was sold by 3D Quarter Horses- Sandra Devine of Wibaux, MT.  Lot 58- Mia Sparkle Girl, a bay filly was sold for $4,100 to Graham Roberts of Wibaux, MT.  She is a well- mannered Catalena Boy (Sugar Bars) bred filly, that has had lots of groundwork- lunges, clips, trims, loads and unloads.

     Ranching Heritage breeder- Bender Ranch- LeAnn Bender of Mobridge, SD had the he high selling weanling filly.  Lot 30; Sugar Oaks Trademark, a palomino filly that was sired by Frenchmans Trademark and her dam is Sugar Oak Freckles.  She was purchased by Olivia Vehran of Sheridan, WY for $1500.
